Amar Akbar Anthony is a 1977 Bollywood movie about three brothers separated in childhood who grow up in three different homes and adopt three different religions.

The movie was directed by Manmohan Desai and starred three actors who were then major stars: Amitabh Bachchan (as Anthony Gonsalves), Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor. Each of the three heroes had a heroine: Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi and Neetu Singh. Nirupa Roy, Pran and Jeevan acted in supporting roles. The music was written by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Kishore Kumar sang for Amitabh Bachchan, while Mohammed Rafi sang for Rishi Kapoor. The soundtrack was one of Mukesh's last soundtracks with Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Anand Bakshi was the lyricist.

Synopsis
A ex-convict must flee his mob boss, leaving his family to fend for themselves. His wife goes blind and his children are abandoned. They are adopted by a Hindu policeman, a Muslim tailor, and a Catholic priest. The Hindu-raised son becomes a policeman in his turn; his Muslim-raised brother becomes a singer; and the last son, played by Amitabh, becomes a happy-go-lucky Catholic who lives on the edge of the law. The boys meet again and their lives become entangled in an incredible plot full of unlikely coincidences and furious action sequences interspersed with songs. In the end, the grieving mother recovers her sight, the evil mob boss is punished, and the family is at last re-united.

The name Anthony Gonsalves was named after a man who lives in India named Anthony Gonslaves.The producers/directors asked if they could use his name since Gonsalves knew them.
